Over 6845 TIST Groups in Kenya have been growing since 2005.
The Gikumene Cluster is 500 strong. Today about 30 of the members do a traditional dance then proceed down to the stream bed to plant about 40 trees. Traditionally planting and singing connect the women more deeply with each other. The women come from different areas so the songs are both unifying and motivating. Esther Mukiwamunewe is particularly enthusiastic as she praises her newly planted trees with a dance over them.
